How Pregnancy Tests Work
Pregnancy tests detect hCG, a hormone your body produces early in pregnancy. The amount of hCG increases over time, which is why the timing of the test matters. Testing too early or not following instructions closely can lead to misleading results.
At our center, you’re able to test in a calm environment with someone available to answer questions and ensure the test is completed properly.
When Should You Test?
Experts recommend testing one to two days after a missed period. Testing earlier may not give reliable results because hCG may not yet be detectable. This is known as a false-negative result. If you’re unsure whether your result is accurate, it’s best to wait a few days and test again.
You may experience other pregnancy symptoms such as:
- A missed period
- Nausea with or without vomiting
- Tender, swollen breasts
- Fatigue
- Mood changes
- Frequent urination
- Mild cramping or bloating
- Nasal congestion
However, symptoms alone aren’t enough to confirm pregnancy; testing is essential. Additionally, we offer ultrasound support to provide you with additional information following a positive pregnancy test.
